Getting Back on Track: Life Coach Valerie Curcuro Helps Clients Reach Their Personal Best
By Nancy Randall
Jane Doe’s husband was addicted to pornography, shattering her self-confidence and causing a separation between the couple.
But after getting help from life coach Valerie Curcuro, Jane is a new person. “I’ve helped her rediscover her own talents, build up her self-esteem and find the self she lost when she got married. She’s living a completely new life. She now has a future for herself,” Valerie says.
“Jane” is one of many clients who seek out Valerie’s help through her New Beginnings for You personal growth and self-development service. Each client’s experience is unique, Valerie says, and can range from personal issues to concerns in their professional life. “They come in angry and scared but leave hopeful and energized, and with a new direction,” she explains. “I thrive on seeing the transition that happens before my eyes, such as the person who is insecure but moves to ‘I can do this.’”
When a potential client first calls Valerie, she uses an in-depth questionnaire and in-person interview to uncover what particular area needs improvement, whether personal or professional. Someone whose longtime partner has left will have a different need than someone who has lost his or her job. “I want to step into their shoes, get into their head. The main thing is to get to know them well enough so that I can provide insight. I catalyze their growth and the realization of their goals,” Valerie says.
She approaches her work from a moral perspective, often combining beliefs from Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. “Sometimes I am a muse, a philosopher and an oracle. I think it’s important to understand our bodies and also to have an understanding of human psychology,” Valerie says of her client methods. She also may suggest to clients that they read a particular book or watch a certain movie as they work to reach their goals.
Here’s what David, one of Valerie’s clients, said about his experience: "Valerie's insightfulness and integrity are reflected in every exchange I have with her. She has guided me towards a level of success and fulfillment that I did not know I was capable of, encouraging me to reach higher in business, personal relationships and daily living. I highly recommend Valerie as a Life Coach to help you imagine, pursue and realize your goals."
New Beginnings offers a variety of packages, depending on the client’s need. For example, Valerie suggests the TLC package – weekly sessions – for someone who has experienced a catastrophic loss in his or her life. At the opposite end is the proactive package, where Valerie meets with the client periodically throughout the year as issues arise.
One client has been with her for 15 years. “I’m looking for lifetime relationships with my clients. That’s the commitment I make,” Valerie explains.
Valerie is a certified Christian lay counselor, and earned a certificate in counseling and case management from Las Positas College. She also has more than 20 years of experience working with people as a volunteer.
