Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Coaching?
A: Coaching is a partnership between a coach and an individual that supports the achievement of results, based on goals set by the individual.  Through the process of coaching, individuals focus on the skills and actions needed to successfully achieve their stated goals, dreams and aspirations.

Q: What are the benefits of coaching?
A: Individuals who engage in a coaching relationship can expect to experience fresh perspectives on personal challenges and they can also expect to see appreciable results through the achievement of a personally meaningful goal.

Q: How can you determine if coaching is right for you?
A: Ask yourself if you find it valuable to collaborate, to have an objective view point from which to consider new perspectives.  And are you ready to devote the time and energy to making real changes in your life.  If yes, then coaching may be a helpful way for you to grow and develop.

Q: What are some typical reasons someone might work with a coach?
A: There are many reasons, but the following lists some of them:
  • To maintain balance while working through a challenging life event, such as a divorce.
  • To overcome a general feeling of unhappiness with the condition of their lives.
  • To define their dreams and aspirations into an achievable goal.
  • Because they recognize the motivational value of being accountable to someone else.
  • Because they are willing to take action to grow.

Q: What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
A: The coach’s work is not to psychoanalyze or provide therapy, but to help the individual accomplish goals.  It is an action oriented profession.  It’s forward moving and future focused.  Therapy, on the other hand, deals with healing pain, and dysfunctional conflict within an individual.  The focus is often on resolving difficulties arising from the past which hamper the individual’s success in the present.  The emphasis in a coaching relationship is on action, accountability and follow through.
